Presentation

Small in size but big in the quality of its wines, Vignerons de la Sainte-Baume is a cooperative of contrasts. It’s long history (a century old!) has not always been peaceful, though: the cellar could have disappeared twenty years ago if it hadn’t been for the involvement of its members. This is to the great benefit of lovers of Provence wines who come here in number to enjoy its wines.

Extra

Located at the entrance of the village, the tasting room is full of good wine as well as local olive oil, chickpeas (the region specialty), various local products and a delicious homemade grape juice.

Original and unusual

The territory of Rougiers is home to the only volcano identified in Provence: the Poulagnier. Two hundred million years old (!) it has laid a layer of basalt at his foot to the delight of local farmers. It certainly benefits the vines, but also the flavour of another culture dear to the village, that of chickpea. This legume is so famous that it’s defended by the Brotherhood of Chickpea of Rougiers and is the subject of a great annual festival. Organized in September by the association "Once upon a time Rougiers" it’s traditionally closed by a chickpea blower contest where each competitor, face down, has to blow his chickpea as far as possible.
