The domain owes its current name to Mr. Rey, a wealthy Arles bourgeois who acquired the it in 1668. Since 2012, Didier Cornille has been the one working on restructuring this old vineyard which he has come to cares deeply for. It is under his impetus (and thanks to his team) that Mas de Rey’s wines are given a makeover with a remarkable quest for originality.
The tasting cellar is definitely a real plus for this domain which makes much reference to Camargue in its spirit, style and decoration. Built in stone and wood with a great high ceiling, it nicely displays all the domain’s wines. If the desire takes you, you can also venture in its extension: you will arrive in the wine cellar of dramatic proportions, fitted with state-of-the-art technology, where 100 000 bottles are produced every year.
Domaine Mas de Rey has its share of mystery, with an unquestioned link with the Templars, these monks soldiers who actively participated in the Crusades and that the clergy allowed to own land. The Templars have in particular ‘brought their science’ in terms of rural development, sanitation and protection system against the Rhone flooding.
